Okay, so your site can be as pretty as anything in the world, have the highest conversion rate of any site ever but without visitors to your site it is all useless, do you know what 100% of 0 is? That’s right 0. No traffic = no MONEHS!
Before you even think about getting traffic, you need to get your site indexed in google, although in time google will probably find your site and index it, this can take a few weeks. I use <a href=”http://www.pingkaching.com/230.html”>Ping Kaching</a> which gets my sites and new posts indexed within a few minutes, it also has some other great features, check it out.
There are tons of ways to get traffic on the internet but this article will just outline the ones that I use and have used in the past, it may be different to some other lists but hey, I know what has worked for me and what hasn’t. My basic aim for most of my sites is to get on page 1, anything higher is a bonus for me. I have a 100% success rate for getting every site I have owned to the first page, a lot of them rest at number 1 ☺
These are the methods that I use:
Article Marketing – This is a pretty standard method, you will read about this on most IM blogs and for good reason, IT WORKS! In 2 ways too, OH MY!!!! Basically the idea is to post a quality unique article to an article directory that has a high PR (page rank). This gives you an all important authority back link (the next article is my backlinking strategy) that will help your search engine rankings as well as send you referral traffic from people who read your article.
I submit to these article directories (note that I do not post to all of them every time, I just pick and choose depending on how any links I think I need):
- Ezinearticles (PR 6)
- Buzzle (PR 5)
- Articlesbase (PR 6)
- Article Dashboard (PR 5)
- Article Blast (PR 5)
- iSnare (PR 5)
- Articlecity (PR 5)
- Sooper Articles (PR 5)
You can submit to all of these if you really need the power but you rarely do.
Press Releases – Sending a well written press release to relevant writers and bloggers can send a huge flow of traffic to your site, I have leveraged this on many occasions, and although the traffic does not really last, it provides a decent spike that will earn you some moolah and if they like your traffic, some of them will come back.
You should basically see a great little increase in traffic from any press release that gets picked up. My golden rules of press releases are:
1) Make sure it has something new in it – there should be something new that nobody has read before, or at least a new angle of looking at something, otherwise all of the people you send it to will just ignore it.
2) Write it in the proper format – no editor will publish a press release if it not in the correct format, check out my guide to writing press releases to see how I do it, I have a high success rate with getting these mofo’s published so be sure to check it out.
Outbound Links – Don’t be afraid to link to other sites, the dynamics of link juice will tell you that it is bad to link away from your page. But think of it this way, you know how you check every single back link that comes to your site, well….. everybody does that, and if they see a link form your site that they are not expecting then they will click through and check out your site.
If they like it, then they may give you a link back, thereby sending some sweet free traffic to you in the process. This recently happened to me, I was just writing an article about a pretty well known dude in the industry I was writing about, I linked to an article of his that was a must read for the topic I was writing about, this guy saw the link, followed t back to my site and published a link in his next article, now this guys site has around 2 million views a month, my site had a poxy little 3000, the next day, my site got 6000 views, it settled after around a week at around 500 visits per day, effectively raising my traffic by 500%.
This was not intentional by any stretch of the imagination but it just happened to work out, unfortunately I have not monetized this site and don’t think I ever will so not relly gained too much from it but a great lesson none the less.
Social Media – Do you know that people spend over 90 billion minutes every month on facebook? That is a crazy stat and you need to take advantage of it. Places such as facebook and twitter can send you thousands of views each month, I’ve heard good things about G+ but haven’t quite worked out if it’s worth my effort yet. How to use social media to get traffic:
- Post good content – Each time you write a post, announce it to the world, you may not have a million followers or facebook friends, but if you have100 friends and 10 friends post your link to their hundred friends, then 10 of their friends….. you see where I’m going with this? It’s maths dude, maths works!
- Offer something for free – People love free stuff, so offer them something, if you offer something free then people will come to your site to check it out, this same theory also works with contests
- USE CLOUD FLOOD – Click the link and you will see, it’s a completely free service that can bring you tons of traffic, just make sure your site is ready before you use this. It’s not an affiliate link so you’re safe clicking it ☺
- Hashtags – If you tweet about your service make sure that you use a hashtag that will expose your tweet to thousands of people, but make it relevant too or it will be pointless, for example if you write a post about the best rookies in the NFL, use hashtags like #rookie and #nfl
- The title of your post – Your post title needs to be eye catching, especially on social media, people are so over saturated with links that they need a reason to click them, think long the lines of “the best rookies in the nfl” nobody want to read that so try “the 3 rookies that are so good that they will make you poop” okay so don’t use that one exactly but you get the idea, sell your article
Guest Posts – Offer to write articles for other relevant bloggers, they will allow you to post a link to your site, helping your rankings and sending you some traffic at the same time, this is probably the tactic I use the least as I would prefer to use the time to write my own article, but I have had some good success with it in the past.

Oh and to make good on the title of this post, if you have a site that has a CPC of £1, then all you need is a million clicks, send over 10 million visitors and this WILL happen, sell a £10 product you only need to sell 100,000 copies, EASY when you think of the numbers aint it, now all you need to do is make it happen! so once you know how, STOP READING and get off your ass and do it.
